Lee Ellen Fanning's first work as a Creative Director was at Vibe magazine where she worked with Gary Koepke until becoming Art Director. Under her direction, Vibe won many design awards, and garnered significant media coverage. While at Vibe, Fanning also designed “Tupac Shakur" (Crown/Random House), a New York Times Best Selling book. Before Vibe, Fanning worked as a designer with Hachette Filipacchi Magazines.
With Fanning’s diverse background — including a stint as an investment banking analyst, work in television, film, and music video production, such as spots for Ralph Lauren and music videos for Prince — she brings a unique approach to design. Her work has received awards from the Society of Publication Designers, American Photography, the Art Directors Club, and the Type Directors Club.
Fanning was also the founding Creative Director for Tracks and Together Magazines, and the quarterly journal for Movement Research, an organization dedicated to the performance and dance arts. She has also designed advertisements for numerous films and art shows.
Fanning spent a year as Art Director of TIME Digital, TIME Magazine's computer spinoff, and was guest Art Director of several special issues of TIME Magazine. She continues to design myriad books for TIME.
Fanning is also the co-author, illustrator and designer of the first two books in the Wiley Kids mystery & adventure series for tween readers and two interactive, educational books for toddlers "Mars Counts to Ten" and "A Rainbow Called Mars."
Fanning is a graduate of Yale University. This site is a select sampling of her work.
